🥾 Hike to the Ceska Koča Hut — Jezersko, Slovenia

📍 Circular Route | 14.5 km | 650m Elevation | 4.5 Hours
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (Five sweaty stars)

🚀 The Adventure Begins

We kicked off our hike straight from our cozy base in Jezersko, on a crisp and sunny late August morning. This circular trail is beautifully marked and well maintained, ideal for our team of self-declared slightly-above-average weekend warriors. The goal: reach the historic Ceska Koča alpine hut for lunch, then circle back for a celebratory nap and carbs.

The early kilometers wind gently through the village, lulling us into a false sense of fitness security. But soon enough, the incline kicked up and so did our cardio.

🌲 Into the Forest (And Up We Go)

The trail meanders through peaceful forest, offering shady relief as we huffed and puffed uphill, fueled by stubborn determination and delicious trail snacks.

The views? Absolutely spectacular. Slovenia really knows how to deliver a mountain moment.

In the final kilometer, things got spicy with a few ladders and cables built into the rock. Not exactly Via Ferrata (bet you looked that up, didn’t you?), but enough to make it feel like an adventure. Those with a healthy respect for heights should tread mindfully, especially if the weather’s wet (we lucked out with blue skies).

🏡 The Hut: A Piece of Alpine History

Ceska Koča sits proudly beneath Kočna, Grintovec, and Dolgi Hrbet, and has welcomed climbers, hikers, and winter adventurers since 1900, making it Slovenia’s oldest mountain hut.

We reached the hut after about 2 hours of walking, around lunchtime, sweaty, happy, and ready to eat everything. The friendly staff took our orders for hearty homemade stew and cold drinks, which we devoured while sitting at picnic tables on the sun-soaked deck.

🧾 Lunch prices: €5–8. No cards—bring cash!
🍷 Yes, they serve wine and cold beer. Yes, you’ve earned it.
🛏 Planning to stay overnight? Book ahead via email and BYO sense of adventure.

🧻 Pro Tips from Tired Hikers

  • There are toilets at the hut (hallelujah).
  • You can refill your water bottles here.
  • Don’t forget cash. Seriously, no card = no stew and no strudel 😱

🏞 Downhill & Done

After soaking in the scenery and stretching our legs, we began the descent. The first stretch retraced our uphill steps before veering into a peaceful new valley. Hiking poles spared our knees and earned their place in our hall of gear fame.

We saw a handful of fellow hikers, but for the most part, it was just us and the mountains. Peaceful, stunning, and totally worth the effort.

We strolled back into Jezersko feeling proud (and slightly wobbly), grabbed hot showers, took glorious naps, and finished the day with pizza and tall tales. A perfect end to a five-star hike.

🙌 Logistics Love

A huge shoutout to Macs Adventures, who organized our accommodation and baggage transfers along the route. Everything ran like clockwork, and we’d absolutely recommend them to other aspiring mountain-goats-in-training.

Hat tip, Macs—see you on the next trail!
